Alliance Defending Freedom Protects The Rights Of All People Regardless Of Religion Affiliation
Formerly known as Alliance Defense Fund, the Alliance Defending Freedom, founded in 1994, is backed by Christian leaders. Many of their clients identify as Christians; however, Alliance Defending Freedom fights for religious freedoms for everyone, regardless of religious affiliation. They also advocate for free speech, parental rights, sanctity of life, and marriage.
The organization strongly believes that people of faith and no faith have the right to express their beliefs, whether in public or in their homes. Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) has defended people who have expressed their freedom to not make things for those who believe differently than they do. For example, a florist had a long-time client, but when asked to create floral arrangements for their same-sex marriage, she declined the work and referred him to other florists in the area who would love to help. It did not stop there. The government stepped in and punished the florist. ADF believes that florists and others have the right to decide for themselves who they create their art for. They believe the government cannot tell them who they must serve.
ADF also funds the Center for Academic Freedom. The organization works with college students to ensure their right to express their ideas and views without fear of punishment. They have assisted over 400 students in securing their right to free speech.
Another issue Alliance Defending Freedom defends is the sanctity of life. They believe everyone has a right to life. They helped a veteran’s sister keep her brother on life-sustaining measures when his ex-wife wanted them removed.
When a Virginia school district was enforcing policies based on Critical Race Theory, ADF filed a suit to protect the students’ civil rights. The organization also has a global reach and helps those maintain their religious and free speech rights.
