Since 2004, Richard Liu has faithfully served as Chairman and CEO of JD.com. Richard’s Road to success hasn’t always been easy though. Even the most basic necessities weren’t available as he was growing up, with perseverance and a dream, he has succeeded.
Richard Liu is a world leader in e-commerce with awards such as China’s Economic Person of the Year in 2011, the Chinese Businessman Award in 2012, and 2017’s Variety 500 Honoree Award. As one of the humblest CEO’s of a gigantic world e-commerce business, Richard Liu uses one day of each year working as a delivery man for J.D.Com.
With inspiration and motivation, Liu Qiangdong learned from his grandmother how to rise above difficulty and look challenges right in the face. Although his small-town upbringing offered little in the way of modern conveniences, Richard Liu found that education would work in his favor. Along with his studies at the Renmin University, he spent his free time learning computer programming.
Richard found computer programming to be a much sought-after skill, and completed an EMBA program at the China Europe International School of Business. Qiangdong became knowledgeable in business management as well as holding a degree in sociology from Renmin.
Richard Liu’s first store, Jingdong, was located in Zhongguancun. He sold products that were in demand at the time, and because of his integrity and sound business practices, his small store grew to be a large retail and e-commerce business. Within just a few years, he had 12 stores located in larger cities in China.
