Diverse and AmiableHappy Joe’s Franchisees are Coming to the Lone Star State
Rickey McBride, a Davenport Central High graduate, has fond childhood memories of spending time with friends at Happy Joe’s, enjoying pizza, ice cream, and games. He joined Georgia Southern University and played semi-professional football in several southern cities before settling in Atlanta and launching a successful business career.
McBride remarked, “There are a lot of pizza places, but there’s only one that gives you a unique pizza experience like Happy Joe’s.” They offer top quality service and fresh, organic ingredients. Later this year and in subsequent years, multiple Happy Joe’s will open across Texas thanks to McBride and his ownership group, HJ SMS OpCo, LLC, which includes:
Bryan Shorter and other childhood friends. McBride and his friends were sold on opening a Happy Joe’s in Texas because the Lone Star State is home to a minority population. Also, there are several cities that boast large pockets of successful minority neighborhoods. This change is even more momentous because HJ SMS OpCo is a Black-owned business group, making them the first minority franchisees in Happy Joe’s over 50-year history!
McBride remarked, “Being Happy Joe’s first minority-owned franchise group is huge, but it’s equally important for us to be in these areas where families and kids like ours can come in and have the same experiences we had growing up.” Happy Joe’s CEO and Chief Happiness Officer Tom Sacco said he’s “thrilled to present our first Black-owned franchise group in February as a tribute to Black History Month.
