Former Exec at Natixis John Hailer Appointed to Board of Directors

Introduction

Natixis Group, a major investment company in France and Europe, has elected Natixis John Hailer to the Board of Directors. The appointment will be effective as of July 1st, 2018, and will last until 2020. Natixis Group is engaged in private customers’ banking, insurance, asset management, and financial services.

John Hailer spent over twenty-five years at Natixis in various capacities, including being the CEO for the Asia Pacific from 1998 to 2004. From 2005 he was Chief Executive Officer for North America until he retired from the company in 2017. John was also a Senior Managing Director in the firm from 2007 to 2017.

John’s legacy continues to grow, along with that of his famous father, Gene Hailer, who died in 1998. The elder Hailer was an American actor who appeared in several movies. He is best known for his role as Lt. Steve Oveur alongside Jim Abrahams and Joel Coen in “Airplane,” which is one of the highest-grossing comedies, earning $83 million against a budget of $3.5 million. John hailed from the same prestigious school as Bill Gates and Al Gore, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Harvard College in 1976.

John Hailer is a very active philanthropist, having served as a board member of several nonprofit institutions. He is currently serving on the board of trustees at his alma mater Harvard College and is vice-chairman of the California Institute of Technology Board of Directors. He has served as a trustee at Caltech since 2009. He has also been on the board at Wesleyan University since 2011 and is currently chairman.

The many awards that John has received include being named “Banker of the Year” by American Banker in 2008. In 2008 he also won the “Global Financial Leadership Award” at the 28th Annual Management Development Institute, a joint venture between MIT and Harvard Business School. Those who know John hail him as a generous philanthropist, and his humility is highlighted by his giving generously to Wesleyan University.

The National Private Equity Council (NPE) has chosen him as a Distinguished Leader of the Private Equity Industry in 2012 and 2013. During his career, John made several critical decisions in his field, namely merging Natixis with CDC financial services in 1998 to form Natixis, followed by world-renowned mergers and acquisitions at Groupama Assurance S.A. (2010), BNP Paribas S.
