John Savignano, Chief Executive Officer at Savignano

John Savignano is the Chief Executive Officer at Savignano, a Long Island City-based CPA firm. His mission is to provide service with a human element that has always been missing in accounting firms. To do so, he and his team of advisors offer tax reform consultations and financial planning for individuals, as well as preparation for special events such as gifting your estate to children or grandchildren. John also handles cash flow projections with his bookkeeping services.

Savignano sees creating comprehensive financial plans for his clients as the foundation of his practice. “Everyone needs to have a plan,” he says. “It’s not enough to just do your best and hope things work out. It’s important to have a backup plan in case something goes wrong.”

Savignano stresses that you should not only have an action plan, but an investment strategy as well. “You can’t just save money in the bank,” he says with a laugh. “The interest that you earn will never keep up with inflation. You need to invest your money properly to grow it, so you don’t have to worry about it later in life.”

Savignano himself sponsors various investment clubs around Long Island City and he travels the region conducting financial planning workshops through his firm’s charitable branch, SAVIGNYPE. To this day, Savignano still makes a personal visit to every new client.

“You have to get out of the office and meet your clients face-to-face,” he says. “It’s the only way to really get to know a person. And it helps them understand how you operate and how you work. You don’t need to be out there all the time, but as much as possible.”

Savignano has a strong sense of community, he says. “We’re all here on Queens Boulevard together. We’re all neighbors. I have learned that the best thing you can do for your neighborhood is to help out whenever you can. You just have to take the initiative and do whatever you can to make things better.”
