 Wayne von Borstel, President and Founder of von Borstel & Associates

Von Borstel is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the International Council of Museums, and The American Council on Education. He is also an honorary fellow at the School of Architecture at University College London and serves as chairman emeritus of Cornell University’s School of Architecture and as a trustee at both Temple University School of Business and Wharton School.

In 2012 von Borstel was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) and in 2008 was also elected to the University of Pennsylvania’s Academy of Fellows.

In 2006, he was awarded the highest distinction from Germany’s Federal Republic, the Cross of Merit by President Horst Köhler. In 2016 he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, a high honor that goes to only one person a year.

The following year he was elected to be chairman of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), widely regarded as the world’s leading authority on museums. In October 2015 von Borstel was elected to serve as President of ICOM-UAE Congress of Local Authorities and Vice President of ICOM-Europe.

He is an avid supporter of the United States Military and has traveled extensively with various US military units to Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) as well as a member of the American Council on Education (ACE). He is also a member of the British Institute for International Affairs and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

In 2013 von Borstel was named one of the top 50 most influential international diplomats by Foreign Policy magazine.

In 2011, von Borstel received the Dr. Otto Hahn Medal of the German Research Association (DFG) and in 2009 was elected Professor emeritus of Cornell University. In 2013 he published his memoirs: “A Concise History of Architecture”. The book is published by Princeton Architectural Press.
