Greg Soros, Podcaster, Bets on Mentorship Over Big Clients

When Greg Soros launched Podcraft Media Lab, the Austin-based podcast producer had an easy path to profit: serve high-paying Fortune 500 clients and little else. He chose a different route. The podcaster committed real resources to mentoring emerging creators from underrepresented communities through the Podcast Academy’s diversity fellowship program, and that decision now sits at the heart of his company’s mission.

Soros frames the issue bluntly. “The podcasting industry has an accessibility problem,” he says. According to Soros, his team has “the technical expertise and industry connections to level the playing field,” along with a responsibility to amplify voices that have historically lacked access to premium production resources.

What Mentees Actually Learn

The training draws on two parts of Greg Soros podcaster background: technical study at Berklee College of Music and years spent at major podcasting studios. Participants work through narrative structure and sound design, then move into monetization strategies and audience development. Soros also opens his professional network, introducing creators to potential sponsors, distributors, and collaborators. Greg Soros has used this mix to help launch numerous independent shows.

That business focus is deliberate. “Most mentorship programs focus on creative development, which is important but incomplete,” Greg Soros explains. His program adds lessons on pitching advertisers, negotiating distribution agreements, and building sustainable revenue models. “That’s what transforms a hobby into a career,” he says.

Results That Turned Heads

The investment has produced unexpected returns. Several mentees have landed major distribution deals, and three shows reached six-figure download numbers within their first year. Maria Rodriguez, a former mentee, recently won a podcasting award for her investigative podcast “Border Stories.” She credits the podcaster with teaching more than technique, saying “he shares the business acumen that transforms passion projects into sustainable media ventures.”

Major podcast networks have noticed, and several competitors are now building similar mentorship programs. Greg Soros views that shift as validation of his long-term vision. “Great content comes from diverse perspectives and authentic voices,” he says. For this podcaster, seeing rivals follow his lead confirms he chose the right path. Refer to this article for more information.
