Alliance Defending Freedom: Advancing the God-Given Right to Live and Speak the Truth
ADF stands for Alliance Defending Freedom and is a non-profit legal organization that was founded in 1994 by Christian community leaders.
Today, those principles remain, and the Alliance Defending Freedom group believes in protecting religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, free speech, parental rights, international work and Supreme Court advocacy.
For instance, the Alliance Defending Freedom has played a pivotal role in many Supreme Court victories. A most recent example of such a major win emerged in 2022 when the “Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey” decisions were overturned. The decision clearly stated that a so-called right to abortion has “no basis in the Constitution’s text or our nation’s history.”
When it comes to parental rights, the ADF firmly believes that parents can make the call regarding their children’s upbringing, health and welfare. The non-profit has filed a lawsuit against a Virginia school board for enacting policies based on the Critical Race Theory. Alliance Defending Freedom organization has stated that the school board is violating the civil rights of the students and the rights of their parents.
ADF International is another organization standing up for Christians and other religious minorities against persecution in court. Its members advocate for free speech and religious freedom globally.
The ADF has a large network of close to 5,000 attorneys working on its behalf here in the United States and around the world. The organization’s CEO, president and general counsel is Kristen Waggoner. She has held the position since October 2022. Waggoner and the ADF’s many members believe that every individual has First Amendment rights.
